try a new recipe when you're hosting book club for the first time! What was I thinking? I certainly know better, but I just thought it was simple enough that I could pull it off. But no. I decided to try this fruit pizza recipe out of the Family Fun magazine, well here's how the scenario ended up. The crust was made out of regular pizza dough with butter and sugar added and it was slightly chewy, and a bit soggy on the top where the cream cheese layer was. Lame. I actually asked one lady if she wanted a steak knife to cut it with, she was fighting with all her might to cut it with a fork, while trying to not launch it all in the air at the same time. This is a useless post too, but I just have to get it off my chest, because it seemed like one of those elephants in the room that I didn't have the guts to acknowledge and say to everyone "I'm sorry the dessert stunk tonight!" There were a million other things I could've made that I know people like, but alas...I chose to venture out!
Anyway, I love our book club, especially when I'm not hosting! :| The ladies are hilarious and I love just hanging out and talking with them all. Good times.

Your dessert did not stink! It was great! I loved it! Why did they try to use a fork to cut it? I ate it with my hands and it was great!! I <3 book club too!!
sand- hilarious. You don't normally make rookie mistakes like that. I like the adventure, good lesson learned.
Fo sho sister sally.
Oh, lady... your blog is one of my faves because you have all these random, hilarious life moments. And I thought I had good stories? Compared to you... not so much. Just remember to treat book club desserts like hairstylists: NO NEWBIES!!! :)
I saw that recipe and thought -- why in the world are they using regular dough and not cookie dough? I'm glad I know now it's a no-go. I've made similar mistakes using new recipes, my friend. Why, oh why, do I try new things out for guests?! :)
Just back the fruit pizza train up here for a second. You're crazy, and it was delicious. I agree with Kim. It was meant to be eaten with your hands and I loved it enough to have seconds. I agree with the rule about not trying new recipes for company, but this was a rare exception. Well done and stop acting silly.
Kareen couldn't have said it better. That is hilarious! It was great seeing you tonight. Can't wait to see you the new baby soon!
I thought it was so good. I was tempted to take another piece too...but held myself back, for once. I just ate it with my hands too. I like it with that dough because it wasn't as sweet as when you use cookie dough. It was a fun night. Thanks for hosting!
